Note: In the middle of July you will receive notice of acceptance. If accepted, you will then be asked to enroll and given a link. 

Enrollment Fees
In March of 2026, the Geary County Schools USD 475 Board of Education approved the proposed enrollment fees below beginning during the 2026-27 school year. The following fee structure is for textbook rentals, technology and athletic fees. Please note that this applies to all part-time enrollment and virtual students as well. In addition, high school students will now pay for each individual advanced placement course exam.

• Elementary Textbook Rental: $30
• Secondary Textbook Rental: $50 
• Athletics 7-12: $20 per year

Not Eligible For Waiver Fees
• Virtual School Technology: $50
• Advanced Placement Course Exam: $49 per test
• Secondary Student Personal Electronic Pouch: $10 at Junction City HS, Junction City MS and Fort Riley MS

Enrollment and textbook fees will be assessed once student enrollment is verified and may be paid through your Skyward account on in person at your student's school beginning on Saturday, Aug. 1. Please note that fees apply to all students including homeschooled and part-time enrollment students. Consent forms for fee waiver consideration will be available in school offices.

Free and Reduced Price Meals
The Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals is available on Skyward Family Access. It will be made available in July. It also can be downloaded from the child nutrition page below. Hard copies are also available at the Devin Center. Completed applications should be turned in to your child’s school.

Notes
USD 475 students who would like to attend a school outside their boundary area must obtain a transfer form from the school they would like to attend. This must be done every year and approved by the principal.

To make additions or corrections to your child’s emergency contact information, visit your school’s office. Contact information should be kept up to date in Family Access Skyward. Returning Students can enroll online through Skyward. New Student Enrollment can be done online or at the school once buildings are open. For questions about enrollment, call 785-717-4000.

Child nutrition applications are now available through the Family Access Portal, using the link below. Applications may be completed using the steps below.

Open the Family Access Portal, then click the link to the left that says “Food Service”, then click the hyperlink at the top of the page, toward the right, that says “Applications”.  Choose the option to “Add An Application”, then complete the application steps.  If you have more than one student enrolled in the district and are unable to see the link for “Add an Application”, use the drop down menu at the top of the screen to navigate to just one of your students.

If you’d prefer to complete the Child Nutrition Application in paper form, those will be available in your child’s school building or at the Mary E. Devin Center for Education Support at 123 N. Eisenhower Drive. We look forward to an amazing year!

The documents listed below must be returned to your child's school of enrollment. 

• Certificate of Immunization Card
  Any student entering Geary County Schools for the first time must present certification from a licensed physician that s/he has received all immunizations as required by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  By Kansas state law, no student shall be permitted to attend school until s/he has received the required and most recent appropriate immunizations in all required series.

• Child Health Assessment (At enrollment) 
  Physical examination for children eight years-old and younger.
  This assessment must be completed within 12 months of school entry or within 90 days after school entry.  This also applies to preschool children entering school for the first time.  The Kansas Health Assessment form below can be downloaded in pdf format or obtained at your child’s school.

• Proof of Identity - Birth Certificate
• Grade Cards, Certified Transcripts - This will help counselors place your student in appropriate classes.
   
• KSHAA Physical Examination 
  7th through 12th-grade students
  An annual physical examination is required by the Kansas State High School Activities Association for student participation in interscholastic activities.  This exam must be completed prior to the first day of practice and not before May 1 of the previous school year.  This form can be found above or can be obtained at the main offices of Junction City Middle School, Fort Riley Middle School or Junction City High School.   
  
  KSHAA Physical Examination

All Students entering kindergarten must be five years old on or before August 31st.  First-grade students must be six years old on or before August 31st or have attended an accredited kindergarten, according to Kansas Statute K.S.A. 72-1107 which defines the entrance requirements for the state.

Kansas accreditation regulations require all accredited elementary schools to partner with families of incoming kindergarten students to complete both the ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 developmental screening tools. Ages and Stages Screener (ASQ) is utilized for kindergarten readiness.

If you want to transfer your student from your assigned school to another school in the district, please enroll your student in the school that you would like for them to attend. You may then contact either your transfer school, fill out the form below or call the district office for a Transfer Request Form.  Our primary preference is that students attend their boundary assigned school – this helps keep class sizes manageable so adequate teacher staffing can be assigned.

An In-District Transfer is a request for a student to attend a school within the district that is outside of the student's assigned residential attendance boundary based on the family's home address.

Families seeking an In-District Transfer must complete both the district enrollment process and a separate In-District Transfer application for each student requesting a transfer.

New Student Transfer
New students who would like to be considered for a transfer will be given first-enrolled priority. New students must be enrolled and have their transfer form completed to be considered. Families will be notified of acceptance or denial via email by Aug. 3-7, 2026.  

Please note that schools have a maximum number of students that can be accepted.

We do understand that various circumstances may result in a request for a transfer to another school within the District, or a student may be transferring into USD 475 from another school district.

The criteria used to determine if a request may be granted is based on:

• Neighborhood school assignment
• Class Size (space is available in the desired school)
• Safety/Special needs
• Whether a student has attended the school in previous years
• Sibling attends same school
• Student attendance and behavior are in good standing at currently enrolled school
• Logistic issues exist for the family (i.e., child care, transportation)
• Family is on housing list for Fort Riley

(Note: Parents/Guardians that transfer to a school outside of their boundary assigned school are responsible for transportation to and from school.)

Providing a safe learning environment for students and staff is a top priority in Geary County Schools USD 475. As part of our continued efforts to ensure safer schools, USD 475 is recommending all students purchase clear backpacks.  

Please note that traditional backpacks may still be purchased for next school year, but we are strongly encouraging parents to purchase clear backpacks to help us enhance our safety protocols inside our buildings. This proactive measure is just one of the many safeguards we have either put in place or are recommending to help protect our students and staff.

In 2025, USD 475 implemented walk-through weapons detection devices throughout its secondary schools. The district also utilizes the STOPit app in all its secondary buildings as well as the Kansas School Safety Hotline (1-877-626-8203) in its elementary schools.
