Geary County USD 475 highly values the paraeducators that are part of our team. Paraeducators are educational professionals that work under the direction of a licensed special education teacher. They work very closely with special-needs students, assisting with student learning and working alongside the classroom teachers.

Paraeducators have become critical to the success of students in special education classrooms, where students often need more individual attention. They can have a variety of duties throughout the day and can help the primary teacher with a wide range of tasks. They work with students in every grade level and school in the district, and there are even district-level positions available for working with students that have a higher level of need.

Work as a paraeducator can be very rewarding and requires less post-secondary education than becoming a licensed teacher.

However, there are some requirements that applicants must meet if they decide to pursue a path as a paraeducator.

Paraeducator RequirementsParaeducators must possess a high school diploma or GED, and either 48 hours of college credits or pass an assessment approved by the state Board of Education. However, unlike pursuing a teaching license, paraeducator applicants must apply within Geary County USD 475.

Candidates that wish to learn more or apply for Paraeducator positions within the district should start by reading the information on the Applitrack webpage.

Of course, we are always here to help. Our hiring staff will be happy to help answer any questions you may have and are also able to assist with the application process. For any questions on the application process, please call the USD 475 Personnel Services department at 785-717-4000.
