Research Projects- Let the Fun Begin!
Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a male and female cicada? Or why the leaves fall from the trees? How about what things eat a piranha? We have lots of good questions! Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are starting their independent research projects. They choose a topic they are interested in, think about three fat questions (ask them the difference between fat and skinny questions), then they research to find their answers. Each student will publish their answers and teach the class about their topic. The second graders will be working together on their first research topic.

Classroom Visitors
What a zoo we have in the science room! Dead crickets, butterflies, grasshoppers, a bumblebee and at one point in time a dead snake! I love how excited we are about the world around us. Because our science conversations are on Mondays (or the first day of the week) our special visitors are welcome to be brought in to be shared. If the creature is still living, please email me at courtneypfizenmaier@usd475.org or call the school at 785-717-4170 to check first.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!
Our first few weeks of SST (Science, Social Studies, and Technology) we have focused on building our background knowledge about conserving our natural resources and keeping our planet beautiful. The students are going to use their schema to create a poster to enter into the "Kansas: Don't Spoil It!"
The science room has had lots of creepy crawlies visiting- most dead, some alive. It is exciting to see how interested our students are in the world around them. Every weekend I challenge them to observe/find something to connect to science. We start our Monday with a conversation about these connections.
A quick note on homework: Mapping homework will be assigned on Wednesday and due at the beginning of class the following Tuesday. If you have questions, please email me at courtneypfizenmaier@usd475.org.

What is a Blog?

A Blog is a site designed to help you share information. Blogs can be used as news sites, journals, diaries, team sites, and more. It is your place on the World Wide Web.

Blogs are typically displayed in reverse chronological order (newest entries first), and consist of frequent short postings. With this Blog, it is also possible for your site visitors to comment on your postings.
