3.  How often can my child be absent before it is a big problem?

  1. All absences affect a child’s academic performance; however, if a student has excessive unexcused  absences the principal is required to submit a truancy report.

  2. A student is considered truant if he/she acquires 3 consecutive days of unexcused absences, or 5 unexcused absences in a semester,  or a total of  7 unexcused absences in a school year.

  3. The decision as to whether an absence is excused or unexcused is the responsibility of the principal.
