v Schools in USD 475 earned 105 Standard of Excellence Awards on the 2007 Kansas Assessments.

v Eisenhower, Ft. Riley Elementary, Franklin, Morris Hill, Sheridan & Ware Elementary
schools received the 2007 Governor’s Achievement Award for top performing schools in
the State of Kansas. 

v Ware Elementary selected for a national Dispelling the Myth Award” sponsored by
Education Trust, Inc., recognizing the top four schools in the nation with the highest
correlation between challenging demographics and high achievement. 

v Morris Hill & Eisenhower Elementary schools named 2007 National No Child Left
Behind
Blue Ribbon Schools.
 

v USD 475 awarded a $3.3 million Early Reading First Grant for early childhood programs
including Fort Riley Youth Services and Geary County Head Start.

v Franklin, Washington and Ware Elementary schools selected for 2007 Challenge Awards
from the
Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force.

v Schools in Geary County received 84 State Standard of Excellence Awards in Math &
Reading on the 2006 Kansas Assessments.  Each school received at least one Standard of
Excellence Award. 

v Westwood Elementary School named a 2007 National Distinguished Title 1 School. 

v Junction City High School Class of 2007 received $ 1.6+ million in local, state and
national scholarships; one senior named a National Merit Commended Student; one
senior received an appointment to a military academy.

v Mary Wright, Junction City Middle School Assistant Principal named Assistant Principal
of the Year(’07-’08) by the Kansas Association of Middle School Administrators.
 

v  Jean Johnson, Ft. Riley Middle School sixth grade math teacher named 2008 Geary
County Master Teacher Nominee.
  
 

v Shelbie Witte, Ft. Riley Middle School 8th grade language arts teacher named a Region 1
Finalist for the 2008
Kansas Teacher of the Year Award. 

v Rebecca Schippers, Junction City High School math teacher named a 2008 Kansas Horizon
Award
recipient.  The award recognizes outstanding first-year teachers. 

v Chris Day, Eisenhower Elementary  vocal music teachers selected as the 2007-08 North
Central Kansas Outstanding Elementary Music Teacher.
 

v Sierra Jackson, Spring Valley Elementary principal named the 2007 Administrator of
the Year
for the Kansas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
 

v Kathryn Kinnan, JCMS Sixth Grade Social Studies Teacher selected a 2007 Kansas Horizon
Award
recipient in recognition of exemplary first-year teaching. 
 

v Dr. Ferrell Miller, JCMS Principal, named 2006-07 Kansas Middle School Principal of the Year. 

v Lincoln Elementary teacher, Amy Roether and JCHS English Teacher, Judy Beemer named
2007 Kansas Teacher of the Year
nominees. 

v Nine USD 475 teachers are National Board Certified Teachers:  Daneen Deam,
Anna Haffner, Anneliece Kowalik, Michelle McDaniel, Linda Olson, Mary Jane Witt,
Shelbie Witte, Clifford French and Barb Johnstone.
