HOMEWORK KANSAS
Homework Kansas is a free
program for 4th - 12th grade students and students
taking college introductory classes.
It provides
one-on-one online access to expert tutors from 4pm -
11pm daily from home, school or the public library. It
also provides Spanish-speaking tutors from 4pm - 9pm
Sunday through Thursday.
Subject area that are available for help include:
Math: elementary, algebra I, algebra II,
trigonometry and calculus
Science: elementary, earth science, biology,
chemistry and physics
Social Studies: American History, World History
and Political Science
English: spelling, grammar, book reports and
essay writing
Students can upload essays for proof reading, tutors can
suggest websites for students but a student cannot
wonder past those websites during their tutor sessions
online. Students are asked to rate the tutor at the end
of each session on how beneficial their experience was.
In a report by the Live Homework Help Program, during
the 2005-2006 school year, students completed one
million live homework sessions. Over 90% of the students
who completed the post-session survey reported having
their self-confidence improve, completed their
assignments and had their grades improve.
The tutors are certified teachers, retired teachers and
people working on degrees. Each tutor applicant goes
through a third party background check. Tutors are
selected randomly to prevent a student and a tutor from
developing a bond or a relationship online.
Access to this program is the result of the Kansas
Legislators who supported this worthy project.
A Kansas Library Card or KanEd password is required to
setup an account, which can be done through the public
library or school library.
