District Staff FAQ

Q: Is USD 475 still hiring for open positions?
A: USD 475 is assessing all open positions and interviewing for certified and administrative positions.

Q: How will interviews be conducted?
A: Interviews are being conducted in a virtual environment.

Q: Can I obtain a professional license during the State of Emergency? 
A: Yes in a limited capacity.  Please visit KSDE’s website https://www.ksde.org/Agency/Division-of-Learning-Services/Teacher-Licensure-and-Accreditation for more information.

Q: When are voucher payrolls taking place?
A: The district will continue paying voucher payrolls once a month. 

Q: Who needs to clock in on Skyward?
A: Currently, only hourly, classified staff working remotely (this may include online PD for e-learning, Safe and Civil Schools training, and any mandatory training for classified staff) will need to clock into the Skyward link https://erma.usd475.org/scripts/wsisa.dll/WService=wsFin/skyportlogin.w.  This may change as the e-learning platform is launched. 

Q: How will this affect my upcoming KPERS retirement?
A: Per KPERS, there will be not be a negative impact to the “time in service” portion for any eligible, retiring staff.  KPERS is currently under a 14-day closure as a precautionary measure due to COVID-19 and encourage folks to be patient with them.  If the employee has any direct questions about their retirement and impact, please have them contact KPERS directly at 1-888-275-5737.

Q: I got a message saying I have exceeded the maximum number of invalid login attempts in Skyward. How can I get help?
A: Please email PayrollDepartment@usd475.org and they can assist with resetting your password.

Q: Will substitute teachers still be paid?
A: If the substitute teacher was already assigned through AESOP to a substitute teaching assignment from 3/16/2020 to 5/22/2020, those assignments will be honored and paid.  Those payments will occur each month that they would normally be vouchered in.

Q: What about long term substitutes?
A: If the long term substitute teacher was already assigned through AESOP to a substitute teaching assignment from 3/16/2020 to 5/22/2020, those assignments will be honored and paid.  Those payments will occur each month that they would normally be vouchered in.

Q: Will there be an open enrollment for benefits for the 2020/2021 school year?
A: Short answer – yes.  It will be a virtual event.  The Benefits Department are still working all the delays to assist with a seamless process to assist all eligible employees elect their benefits for 2020/2021 school year.

Q: Will I be paid?
A: Current administrative, classified, and certified staff will be paid on their normal monthly pay days.  The Board of Education met in March and approved the following motion:

“In lieu of being directed by Governor Laura Kelly on March 17, 2020 that all school facilities in the State of Kansas will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, all continued wage payments to all regular employees, including regular salaried and hourly employees and employees under current contract with the board who are instructed not to report to work on days they would otherwise be required to be working during an emergency closing.  All personnel can and will be called into work during normal duty hours when determined by their immediate supervisor.”   The continuous e-learning information from Teaching and Learning was issued Thursday morning via email from Pam Irwin.  The responsibilities of  certified staff have been laid out.  Classified staff is still to be determined based on district needs.   If any employee is unavailable, then they will need to notify the building administrator and/or immediate supervisor as well as your school’s Head Secretary and leave will need to be utilized or lost pay inputted for that day.

Q: Am I eligible for unemployment?
A: Current, regular employees should not file an unemployment claim if they are receiving compensation from the district.  These claims will be denied.  Please contact the Kansas Department of Labor 1-800-292-6333 if any additional information.

Q: How do I update my address?
