Geary County Grade Card Guide for USD#475 Fourth/Fifth Grades

Evaluation Marks

 

·         The average percent correct for the quarter will be recorded on the “Grade” line for each subject representing the following letter grades:

A  (90%-100%)

B  (80%-89%)

C  (70%-79%)

D  (60%-69%)

F  (59% or Below)

·         4, 3, 2, and 1 will be used for student responsibilities, and the subheading in each subject area that have been assessed during that quarter representing:

4    Exceeds Expectations

3    Meets Expectations

2    Approaches Expectations

1    Below Expectations

·         Not all sub-skills will be assessed during each quarter.

·         Blank spaces under some of the subject areas on the grade card may be used for identifying themes or adding targeted sub-skills not already reported.

 

Modifications

·       The box must be checked above the subject heading if the student had additional assistance or changes to assignments were made for that subject during the quarter.

 

Communications

Standard 1:  Reading

 

·       Types of text include:

›      narrative:  story form

›      expository:  non-fiction

›      persuasive:  support author’s opinion

›      technical: how-to

·       Identifies main idea:

›      tells what the story is mainly about

·       Identifies supporting details:

›      finds details that support main idea

·       Decodes for meaning:

›      uses other words in the sentence to figure out an unknown word

·       Draws conclusions from text:

›      using what you know and the words in the story to make a prediction about what might happen

 

Standard 2 - Writing

 

·       The 5-point scale provided by the district for the 6-Trait Writing Model will be used for scoring all six traits

 

Standard 3 / 4:  Literature

 

·       Identifies types of literature:

›      types of literature include: folklore, fantasy, poetry, historical fiction, realistic fiction, biography, and informational text

·       Identifies story elements:

›      Narrative:  character, setting, plot, problem/solution, and theme

·       Identifies text structure:

›      Expository:  cause/effect, compare/contrast, descriptive, sequential and problem/solution

 

Spelling

·       Spelling grade may be based on tests, dictation, daily work or any other measure determined by the teacher

 

Student Responsibilities

·       Uses Active listening – pays attention to the person speaking

·       Cooperates with others – works and plays well with others

·       Respects peers/adults – is kind and polite

·       Accepts correction – makes suggested changes to work or behavior without difficulty

·       Does personal best – puts forth their best effort

·       Assumes responsibility – completes/ returns assignments,  is a dependable student, follows classroom/building guidelines 

Math

 

Standard 1: 

 

Number/Computation

·       Place Value (whole #’s – decimals)

›      compares and orders whole numbers to hundred millions, decimals and fractions greater than zero

·       Estimation/Rounding:

›      uses whole numbers, fractions, mixed numbers, decimals and money to estimate or round

·       Computational Skills:

›      Grade 4:  multiplication facts through 12

›      performs computational procedures (+, -, *, /) involving whole numbers,  decimals, fractions with like denominators and money

›      Grade 5:  performs computational procedures (+, -, *, /) to include whole numbers, all  fractions, to include:  unlike denominators, mixed numbers and fractions in simplest form

 

Standard 2:  Algebraic Concepts

 

·       Compares and Orders Numbers:

›      applies place value and patterns to model, read and write numbers

·       Solves for  the unknown:

›      uses letters and symbols  in solving number sentences

·       Uses/Creates patterns:

›      recognizes, describes and creates patterns in  a variety of situations

Standard 3:  Geometry

 

·       Uses geometric concepts:

›      Grade 4:  recognizes and describes geometric figures and solids

›      identifies faces, edges, vertices (corners) and bases on 3-dimensional objects

›      identifies line, ray, line segment, radius and diameter of a circle

›      Grade 5:  identifies and recognizes faces, edges, and bases on 3-dimensional objects

›      identifies and explains circumference, radius and diameter

›      recognizes and describes geometric figures up to 10 sides, points and lines, line segments, rays and angles

·       Standard/Non-standard measurement:

›      uses, estimates  and calculates appropriate measurement techniques  to find perimeter, area, length, width, distance, weight, capacity (liquid measurement),  temperature/time

·       Identifies and uses coordinates:

›      identifies and locates coordinates on a grid

›      uses number lines to represent distances between two whole numbers

·       Performs 2-step transformations:

›      recognizes and performs transformations:  rotation/turn,  reflection/flip, translation/slide

 

 

Standard 4:  Data

 

·       Organizes, graphs and interprets data: 

›      organizes, displays and reads data (numbers) in a variety of situations

·       Calculates mean, median, mode, maximum/minimum and range:

›      mean:  average

›      median:  middle number

›      mode:  most often

›      maximum/minimum:  highest/lowest number

›      range:  difference between highest and lowest number

·       Uses probability to determine outcome:

›      compares what should happen with what did happen

·       Uses problem solving strategies:

›      uses a variety of ways to solve problems

 

Social Studies/ Science

·       Teachers will identify the theme or  unit of study that was covered during the grading period in the blank space.

 

Comments

·       Comments must be labeled by date or quarter.

 

Grade Level Next Year

·       Placement or promotion will be indicated in this area at the end of the school year.
