Welcome to Geary County Schools USD 475’s weekly newsletter, Keeping Up with 475. We have so many amazing stories happening every day within our district, and this is where we will share and celebrate the accomplishments of our students and staff.

Kansas Master Teacher

Immense congratulations to Mr. Scruggs, an academic specialist at Seitz Elementary School, for receiving Emporia State University’s The Teachers College 2022 Kansas Master Teacher Award! Mr. Scruggs was notified of this tremendous achievement with a surprise phone call from Dean Joan Brewer.


Raider Team National Champions

Our Junction City High School JROTC Blue Jay Battalion Raider Team was recognized for their first-place finish at Raider Nationals at the Junction City-Geary County Military Affairs Council Breakfast!


Thriving Thursday

Congratulations to last week’s #ThrivingThursday recipient, Amaya! Amaya is always so respectful and kind. She shows Lion’s Pride all day, every day! She perseveres through her schoolwork, even when faced with difficult tasks. She shows integrity by always making appropriate choices and doing what she knows is right. She shows determination by showing up every day ready to do her best! Amaya puts her best effort into each school day! Way to #ThriveIn475, Amaya!

  • March 4 – New Fort Riley elementary groundbreaking at 1:00 p.m. at 4720 Leonard Ave.
  • March 7 – Board of Education meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Mary E. Devin Center for Education Support and live-streamed on YouTube
  • March 14-18 – Spring Break, No School and District Offices Closed
  • March 22 – State of Education at 7:00 p.m. at the Junction City High School
  • March 24 – Tentative Board of Education meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Mary E. Devin Center for Education Support and live-streamed on YouTube
  • March 28 – Community Partnership Meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Junction City Middle School

Mask Policy

A reminder that masks are required for all students, staff, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status, inside all district facilities and district vehicles, including school buses.

This excludes during physical activity and when outside.

Child Find Screenings

Child Find Screenings occur twice a month during the school year and are scheduled through the Early Childhood Center office at 785-717-6950. For more information regarding the application process, please visit the Early Childhood page.
