Summary of August 26, 2021, Board of Education meeting

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. — Geary County Schools USD 475 Board of Education held a meeting on Thursday at the Mary E. Devin Center for Education Support.

The board’s first action taken was approving the personnel reports, as presented by Director of Personnel Services Timothy Winter.

Following this, the board held a lengthy discussion on the district’s 2021-2026 Strategic Plan. The plan outlines the district’s main goals, as follows, and the steps they will take to pursue them:

  1. Academic Goal: USD 475 will equitably address the academic learning amongst students in all demographic categories to improve the graduation rate from 84.7% to 95% by 2025.
  2. Social and Emotional Goal: USD 475 will equitably address the social and emotional needs of students.
  3. Parent Engagement Goal: USD 475 will create opportunities to enhance family and community engagement in equitable manner that allows for participation for all.
  4. Retention and Hiring Goal: USD 475 will develop a plan to Recruit, Retain, and Support High-Quality Staff that reflects our community.

The board made the decision to delay approval of the plan until a later date.

Following a brief discussion item on salaries, led by Superintendent Dr. Reginald Eggleston, the meeting was adjourned.

The board will meet for their next meeting on Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Mary E. Devin Center for Education Support. This meeting will be live-streamed on the Geary County Schools USD 475 YouTube.
