USD 475 schools consistently work to exceed the expectations with the educational services they provide to their students.  Teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff all work diligently to support their student’s education.

This year, Spring Valley Elementary has been honored for exceeding expectations in that endeavor, again.  “Every Child, Every Day, Whatever It Takes.” is Spring Valley’s mission to support it’s students at every opportunity.

The Enhanced Spotlight Recognition is given to schools that implement successful initiatives to improve the social, emotional, and character development skills of their students.  The KSDE, Smoky Hill Education Service Center, and character.org organizations give this recognition to schools that have successfully implemented initiatives to improve the character skills students need to be successful throughout their lives.

Sierra Jackson, Principal at Spring Valley Elementary, is proud to accept this recognition on behalf of her school.  She says, “We are very proud to be selected for an Enhanced Spotlight Recognition award for enhancing existing initiatives to strengthen Social, Emotional, and Character Development (SECD) skills in students and school climate.  The motto of Spring Valley Elementary is ‘Every Child, Every Day, Whatever it Takes.’  We are focused on building positive relationships with kids.” She added, “This award is very meaningful for our school. It demonstrates to our students that building positive relationships is important and that someone is noticing the things that they do to build relationships with their peers and adults.  We appreciate the recognition.”

When asked about why she thinks they are seeing success in social-emotional character development, Mrs. Jackson says, “Everyone at Spring Valley is invested in our students.  All of our initiatives are supported by ALL staff.  We are all truly committed to do what is best to help our students be successful and building positive relationships is a great way to do that.”

Due to social distancing guidelines, there will be a virtual presentation of this recognition on May 12, 2020 on the Smoky Hill Education Service Center’s Facebook page and website.  For those that would like to watch the presentation, the link to the Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/SmokyHillEducationServiceCenter/.
